A little about us at Luminosa ™

Based in Mexico, our methodology is client-focused, working directly with architects and designers to assist in achieving their vision. We believe in the intrinsic value of the handmade object and the personal relationship it holds with the user.

Inspired by the sensuous, natural, and organic, we work with local communities of artisans, designers, and makers.

Our approach fosters a collaborative environment where innovation thrives, allowing us to combine sketching, hand designing, modelling, and CAD/ 3D printing technologies with traditional hand-making techniques in materials such as molten glass, hand-beaten copper, and cast ceramic.

Our product line has expanded to include over 70 interior and exterior lighting fixtures.

We take pleasure in the relationship we share with our suppliers and clients and value the shared vision and dedication to quality. When sourcing, we start by supporting our local communities first.

Our supply chain is 95% sourced within Mexico. Almost everything we manufacture, from our light fittings, electrical components, structural elements, to our office furniture, stationery, boxes, labels—even our work boots—are made within a radius of 170 miles of our studio, supporting our local communities and economy whilst also reducing our environmental footprint.

Where possible, we avoid single-use materials in our lamps. Our copper lamps are made from 100% recycled copper, and our glass lamps incorporate up to 35% recycled glass. Our new range of wall lights uses 75% recycled plastic components.

However, our ultimate goal is to create lighting designs that stand the test of time, rejecting the throwaway culture that dominates popular culture today.

By designing and producing lighting using traditional hand-making skills, we aim to create pieces that are timeless and built to last for generations, thereby removing unnecessary materials from the supply chain and reducing waste.

We are an equal opportunity employer, committed to providing a work environment free from discrimination. This includes persons who may not fit the traditional employment paradigm, those who may have mobility issues, learning challenges, or a need for greater workplace flexibility—including rural workers, single mothers, and older workers.

We recognise that our team brings exceptional wisdom, experience, and time-honoured traditions, deeply rooted in Mexican culture, to the workplace.

Jonathan Baskett is the Creative Director of Luminosa™. His specialisation is in lighting and product design.

Having worked throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, China, USA, and Mexico with artisans, designers, and companies on projects in architecture, lighting, jewellery, tableware, and product and packaging design, he returned to Mexico in 2012 specifically to create the contemporary lighting company, Luminosa™.

“Moved by the extraordinary craftsmanship I encountered across Mexico, I founded Luminosa™ to harness this creativity and celebrate the country's artisanal traditions in a contemporary lighting design context. There’s a universal creative language here, and it felt natural to build a company that could support and celebrate this talent.”
